Women With Sleep Apnea Have A Higher Cardiovascular Disease Risk Than Men

Women With Sleep Apnea Have A Higher Cardiovascular Disease Risk Than Men

However, Sleep Apnea Is 2 To 5 Times More Common In Men Than In Women

According to a study, women with sleep apnea have a higher risk of acquiring a heart condition. One of the consequences of sleep apnea is thickening of the wall of the heart, which lowers the pumping efficiency. The study revealed that the thickness was greater for women. Previous studies have shown that sleep apnea is 2 to 5 times more common in men, compared to women. Therefore, most studies on sleep apnea were performed on the male population. However, when women reach menopause, the risk of sleep apnea increases. Since the proportion of women with sleep apnea is comparatively low, there is a possibility that this condition is being misdiagnosed in women. More info click here.
