Positive airway pressure is a common treatment for sleep apnea, which consists of a mask connected to a machine that forces air to the patient when sleeping. studies have shown that sleep apnea increases the risk of cardiovascular problems and stroke. This is because the brain instructs the heart to work harder as a result of low oxygenation.
